OSHA News for
April 2019
The April left us
twice with snow. Those that planted early found that peppers do not like the
white stuff. This leads into this month ppt. Cannabis Safety. It may be legal
in IL and more states. I am going to keep track of some of the issues in the
production of cannabis. This is a seed document and will grow over the next few
years.
Mark A. Lies
wrote a good article on the marijuana topic for companies at

November to March
is the training season. Now begins the audit season. Scoring a company for OSHA
compliance is popular instead of a list of violations and hazards. I rather
group the issues by topics such as lockout, falls, ergonomics etc.
I got to go to
the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization annual conference this month. I met
two women who got the disease from second hand dust of their father. I feel
there is no safe level for it because these women only lived in the house where
their father bought it home. This is
five people I know that did not work with Asbestos.

OSHA News.
1) Manslaughter
charges were brought against a Maine contractor for the December death of a
roofer who allegedly fell because he wasn’t wearing fall protection gear.
Shawn Purvis,
owner of Purvis Home Improvement in Saco, Maine, is charged with criminally
negligent manslaughter, which carries a maximum prison term of 30 years,

2) Seven workers
killed in trench cave-ins in 2 weeks. Preventing trench collapses is
straight-forward and has been understood since ancient times. Every trench
collapse should be considered for criminal prosecution, in addition to willful
OSHA violations.

Aluminum in North Jackson this week pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony.
Sentencing is scheduled Aug. 1.

killed and another seriously hurt when heavy racks tipped as they were being
pushed on a roller conveyor system at the business in 2012.
