OSHA News for June 2022 Hello, I want to thank the ASSP Three Rivers Chapter for selecting me as the Safety Professional of the Year. OSHA News for July 2022 Hello, I got to speak at the National ASSP conference. I decided to do a hands on rigging inspection in a room of over a 100. The audience was good at picking out damaged slings and shackles. They missed the shackles from China. These 99% have no testing like the ANSI B30.26 standard. Some had packages that said do not use for lifts where personal safety could be endangered. I am to going to push the Kask/Petzl/Studson safety helmets with the chin straps. 4 deaths have saved my clients’ workers that used them. 3 were slips and the head hit the concrete; one had a side impact from a forklift. That is four people that were able to get home. This month powerpoint is on Heat stress. I am trying various electrolyte powders and drinks this summer. If the manufacturer of the gas detector requires a bump test, is this on your confined space permit? I am just as interested in seeing audits with no deficiencies, because it shows me that companies can have a 100% safe job site. Workplace violence remains a serious and growing problem: ● Workplace violence deaths increased to 705 in 2020, while more than 27,000 violence-related lost-time injuries were reported. ● 392 worker deaths were workplace homicides. ● Workplace violence is the fourth-leading cause of workplace death overall and the second-leading cause of workplace death for women. My training hours are going down as many companies are asking for an audits. An outside set eyes to affirm what is right on the job as well upcoming hazards can work wonders. PPE must fit and designed for this body. - Half of the complete inspections this year have identified a fall hazard. So many deaths and so much noncompliance. We need to remind people of the fall protection solutions and PPE. There needs to be more than having fall prevention equipment onsite. - As the safety professional, you are out there selling safety. I know to know how we can help you in tools, website, data, illustrative ideas. We need to spread the word. We reach the usual suspect. We need to reach those that do not know how to comply. I have been writing many heat stress programs during the month. OSHA will conduct inspections for Heat Stress and expect employers to have programs and training. The details will come out in May. OSHA News for February 2022 Hello, This month’s ppt is cold weather safety. I was surprised that I did not teach this before. Natural Gas price doubled from a year ago so many got some hefty gas bills. I also included and article written on lockout by Mark Lies. I like the fact he goes into the periodic audits. Many companies have been cited for this requirement. I got my four COVID test kits in the mail from https://www.covidtests.gov . I think having the tests available will get many in for early treatment. I got covid early last week. Paxlovid worked great. It must be taken in the first Three days of covid symptoms. The symptoms were classic Omicron – runny nose, fever, cough, and congestion. Now I am cleared of the virus and ready to take on a booked February. OSHA News for January 2022 Hello, The Omicron virus seems to be everywhere. My friends and family reported cough and congestion. Lower back ache, runny nose, and nights have been reported also. Testing recommended if you could find a test kit or appointment at a clinic. This months ppt is construction crane safety. It has been a long time since I covered this in the newsletter. Many of the deaths happened in the tower crane area the last few years. Top Five Training Topics in 2021 Machine Guarding Fall Protection Trenching OSHA 511 CHST Prep The highlight of the year was helping a company lower the OSHA recordables from 32 to 8 in a year. This was the first time ever below the industry average. Constant training, audits, better PPE, early clinic intervention on any injury and holding managers responsible for injuries in their department were keys to the success. Cheers to a safer 2022. OSHA News for December 2021 Hello, This was a crazy busy month with work everyday. The New OSHA ETS on Vaccinate/test came out. The 5th circuit said no. The 6th circuit will hear the case. Thanks for all the classes and audits. Registration is Open for 145-Hour Safety Administrator Certificate Course. This is one of the best preparation classes for the CHST. Dozens have passed the CHST on the first try after completion. You will earn many certificates along the way. It starts December 7 – May 12 on Tuesday and Thursday via ZOOM. Classes are 6-9pm.
