APril 2023 OSHA News

OSHA News for April 2023 Hello, This was a month of hours of training. I am at 1434 trained already in 4 months. Confined Space and Lockout are the popular topics. I did some research with OSHA on the 2022 fatals for the first nine months. 145 Falls Jan-Oct 2022 • 29 - Roofs • 27 – Ladders • 12 – Scaffolds • 8 - Skylights • 7 – Stairs • 6 – Forklift Basket • 6 – Truss Rafter • 5 - Pond • 4 – Fall through Floor • 4 - Aerial Lifts Stairs are usually 1-2. I am seeing many stair falls while using a cell phone or carry boxes. If near water, a life preserver or flotation vests needs to be worn. Workers within 15 feet of the roof edge are exposed to a fall off the roof. The Step Ladder companies added a new on the stickers. “Face the ladder with a firm grip.” This prohibits two hand work or turning sideways. There were 3 scaffold fall impalements in 2022. A forklift basket must be approved by the manufacturer or be angineered basket. The Food industry is under a Regional Emphasis in IL and WI. $1.9 million for egregious ockout training. I push my companies to cover lockout every year. https://www.osha.gov/news/newsreleases/region5/04062023 This Month ppt is Entertainment Safety. I last covered it in 2010. With traffic deaths at a 20 year high, everyone should cover safe driving this year. John OSHA News. 1) Amazon. In a third case, in September of last year, an employee struck in the back of the head by two tables falling 15 feet was seen at Amazon’s Amcare clinic, where staff noted multiple signs of concussion that worsened as the visit progressed, including an unsteady gait and difficulty opening their eyes. The employer failed to call EMS. The worker was transported to urgent care by a private taxi company without the appropriate neck and spine stabilization device, OSHA investigators found. https://www.timesunion.com/business/article/osha-cites-amazon-castleton-failure-treat-injured-17925218.php?fbclid=IwAR2DcEdj6aGOkV9UGWdLocJafvK2-_8kvxD-Tzv4-QRxk78_tJY8zkRBe2A 2) Dollar Tree gets cited again.
